Bentonite is a non-metallic mineral with montmorillonite as its main mineral component and its content is 85-90%,the hardness is 1-2 and the density is 2-3g/m³,because of the change of iron content.there are different kinds of color,like White, light yellow, light grey, light green, pink, brown red, brick red, grey black etc..
According to the different characters,including Adsorption、expansibility and the Pulpability,the bentonite can be divided into Sodium、Hydrogen、Calcium and the organic bentonite.
Bentonite for casting is the largest user of bentonite, and it is mainly used in clay bonded sand for casting, because it has the characteristics of strong adhesion, high plasticity, good film removal, excellent air permeability, stable physical and chemical properties under high temperature and wet state etc.
Bentonite for Drilling Mud is the second largest user of bentonite. Bentonite is a clay mineral with montmorillonite as the main component. It has strong water absorption and can absorb water equivalent to 8 times its volume. The volume expansion is 10 to 30 times. It is suspended and gelled in an aqueous solution.When performing oil and gas drilling, etc., mud must be used to cool the drill bit, remove debris, protect the well wall and balance the ground pressure. Bentonite has good dispersion and large slurry output, so it is an ideal material for drilling mud.
